FOR WHOM THE BELLS TOLL
Stop Scheduled Executions

1. Write or call your state representative and senator and urge them to ask the governor to grant clemency. Odds are great that he or she will not even know the execution is scheduled, much less any of the facts about the case. To find out who represents you, click here.

Given the recent national controversy surrounding lethal injections, we urgently need you to tell your legislators that North Carolina needs an immediate suspension of executions at least until the issue of lethal injections is resolved.

2. Call the governor's office today. Contact Gov. Mike Easley at:

Governor Bev Perdue
Office of the Governor

Raleigh, NC 27699-0301

3. Write letters to the editor of your local newspapers.
Letters should be brief (fewer than 250 words) and include your name, address, and telephone number.

Editors prefer e-mail letters if you have that option. Please let us know if any of this contact information has changed.

4. Call your local talk radio station. Be brief and be brave. Suggest that either North Carolina repeal the death penalty or in the least halt executions to allow for a comprehensive review and reform of the death penalty system to make it less unjust and less likely to condemn innocent people to death. You might be surprised at the level of agreement with your views. Click here for a list of local radio stations.

5. Get others involved. Announce scheduled executions and the protests against them in your congregation's bulletin. Pass this alert along to anyone you know who would be willing to help.

6. Organize a protest, prayer vigil, or service. If you would like to organize a protest, an interfaith vigil or prayer service in your community before a scheduled execution, PFADP can assist you with liturgies and publicity. Contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or (919) 933-7567.

7. Pray. Pray for the people on death row and their families, as well as for victims of violence and their families. Pray for North Carolina as it continues to kill its citizens on death row.
